Our Toddler Program is designed to be a gentle transition from home to school. The children gradually gain the level of comfort required to separate from their parents with out the anxiety often associated with the first preschool experience.
The children are particularly sensitive to language development, sensorial stimuli, and movement at this age, so their environment is prepared to maximize language and sensorial-motor experiences. Here they are able to develop physical coordination, enjoy music and rhythm exploration, and learn in a total way, involving their whole bodies. By working with the children's natural tendencies, we show them we show them that we respect childhood, thus encouraging them to enjoy learning.
Because this time of life is when the logical-mathematical mind begins to emerge, a portion of the indoor learning environment is set aside for exploration of the beautiful Montessori sensorial and practical life materials. All of the materials are designed to aid the children in developing independence, concentration, and the sense of order. Montessori Toddler teachers are specialists in the child at this age of development. The are able to gently guide the children into a community of healthy and active learners.
Both the indoor and outdoor environments are rich in language experiences. Children's literature is always available to the children for their own exploration, as well as with the teachers. Oral language development is encouraged through the social interactions as well as through songs ad rhymes introduced by the teachers as well as the music specialist.
